The assessment of the social and psychological state results of MDR/XDR MBT male patients

Abstract

The problem of phthisiopulmonary MDR/XDR MBT patients’ rehabilitation has high medical and socio-economic significance. The difficulty of rehabilitation of this category of disabled people is due to their serious condition, the presence of numerous complications of the underlying disease.

The purpose of the study is to assess the socio-psychological state of MDR/XDR MBT male patients.

Material and methods. The authors developed and implemented in practice an indicator system, a losses and acquisitions index, assessment scales and conducted a medical and sociological study. The sample was formed from 42 disabled people of group II – patients of the Regional Clinical Center of Phthisiopulmonology, all of them belonged to the 2 “A” group of dispensary registration. The control group consisted of 38 adult men living in urban and rural settlements of the Rostov Region. The losses and acquisitions index, representativeness errors, the value of the Student’s criterion, the odds ratio (OR) and the confidence interval (CI) were calculated using the methods of sanitary statistics and analyzed. Differences were considered statistically significant at p≤0.05.

Results and discussion. It was found that respondents of group 1 experienced strong emotional stresses about pragmatic losses 18 times more often than healthy men. Disabled people showed increased infantilism in matters of using brute force and cruel punishment 10–11 times more often, respectively, and were opponents of the death penalty 4 times less often. Disabled people “do not see a medical result from their fight against risk factors” 7 times more often. The skill of building a life strategy was absent in disabled people 3 times more often compared to the control group.

Conclusion. The results of the conducted medical and social research can be used to assess the self-preservation activity of disabled people and to improve the methodological basis for increasing the rehabilitation potential of phthisiopulmonary MDR/XDR MBT male patients.
